Welcome to the Institute of Mathematics of the Department of Mathematics/ Computer Science of the University of Osnabrück!

The Institute’s homepage will provide you with a lot of interesting information concerning activities in research and teaching of mathematics in Osnabrück. The Institute is divided into theresearch groups Algebra/ Discrete Mathematics, Applied Analysis, Stochastics and Topology/ Geometry. As regards main focuses please see the information given by the individual research groups.

There are various attractive possibilities to deepen your knowledge and to specialize accordingly in the bachelor and master courses of study in mathematics. For details please see the links provided. All courses of study in mathematics as a main subject include a field of application. A speciality in Osnabrück is the possibility to choose applied systems science,  cognitive science, or geoinformatics apart from the classical fields of application such as business economics, computer science,  physics, or political economics. It goes without saying that mathematics as a subject can also be chosen in all courses of study referring to teaching professions. The mathematics lectures are then complemented by readings, seminars and practical training in mathematics education which are offered by colleagues of the Institute of Cognitive Mathematics.

Apart from the general consulting service prospective students can also get information on the Mathematics Day. Should you be interested in a study of mathematics either as a major or a minor subject, we would be pleased if you found a suitable offer for you here in Osnabrück.

Furthermore the Institute’s research groups offer numerous possibilities for very good graduates to receive a doctor’s degree  after their study. We would also like to draw your attention to our colloquium which takes place every Wednesday while the university is in session and presents lectures on current mathematical research topics.

The Institute’s members are pleased to give you further information as regards mathematics in Osnabrück on request.
